I Like This Track

On the remix tip again, I am very much enjoying this Strip Steve take on 'Lite Brite' by Das Glow. It has a little tinge of sleaze to it - a soundtrack to a good quality porno perhaps?!

While we're talking about Das Glow I have never gotten over his remix of 'Synthetiseur' - a little Housse de Racket track for which there was a little controversy not so long ago whereby it was suggested Chromeo and HDR were copying eachother. Well, it is unclear who's copying who but I might be so naive as to suggest they COINCIDENTALLY came up with that same riff?? A cop out I know but I like them both and would prefer not have tainted views of either.

Have a listen for yourselves!

Jaysus, tangent much??

Right, here is the download I was originally talking about, you know, the porn one!

Also, I would imagine the Das Glow remix of "Synthetiseur" is available on Beatport .

Throwback: Tears for Fears

One of my favourite bands from the 80's...they are like a cross between Fleetwood Mac and Joy Division! (And Jaysus would you like at the style in that photo!! They would be so current on the streets of London right now!)

Unfortunately, once again we have been raped by Universal who refuse to let us share any videos so now you will have to click through to YouTube to see my favourite song 'Head over Heels'. How inconvenient.

I will also leave you with the video for Pale Shelter which is fantastically bizarre:

Guilty Pleasures.

There are, in my humble opinion, three power houses in pop at the moment and I am 100% hooked on each them! I think the last time I had this much adoration for a pop star I was probably in my very early teens....and I was a proper FOOL back then! It's quite worrying really! But I do think that there is a new breed of entertainment and indeed a tribe of Uber-pop stars who are making it hard for me to turn a blind eye.

Beyonce is UNREAL at the moment - I really cannot fault her (apart from 'Single Ladies' - I fucking despise that song and the stupid reaction it gets from girls in clubs!). And her latest, which turned into a collaboration with Gaga is.....well just watch the video. Poor Gaga doesn't stand a chance here!

(Really enjoyed the comments of disgust posted below this video on Youtube....BOLD Beyonce, did you forget you're supposed to be a God-Fearing Christian?!)

Next we have Gaga. I, like many, would prefer not to have to listen to the nonsense that she speaks but I do however have huge appreciation for the influence she has had on fashion of late. You only have to look at the last Haute Couture shoes in Paris to know that designers are a little bit in love with her. You may not like it but there is no one else doing what she's doing so I say fair fucks! Perfect illustration of this is the video for 'Bad Romance' from 'The Fame Monster' album. I'm defo buying that baby on Monday! Those McQueen shoes she's wearing are HORRIFIC but respect to Gaga for being able to walk in them! Check it out:

And finally Rihanna. This is a very recent thing for me....I kept seeing people on twitter talking about her alot recently and the pending 'R Rated' release and so I decided to investigate. OH MY DAYS this is a really good album!! I can't really believe I'm saying this because if you have ever seen my reaction if ever I had to be subjected to 'Pon de Replay' you would not be believe me.
Unfortunately there is a lack of anything very representative on the web pre-album release (at least nothing LEGAL!) so I will leave you with a poor version of 'Wait You Turn'.

I'm glad that's out of my system now.

It was about DâM time

This post is long overdue and my only excuse is that I have been selfishly enjoying the Dâm-Funk too much to take the time to talk about it.

All you can say when you hear his music is 'this is what it must feel like to be in the 80's"! (I was only a chizzler!)
No one really compares to this guy right now....certainly not in terms of the reaction he is getting....and rightly so. You only have to listen to how he manages to perfectly package his sound. It's fucking addictive is what it is!

And my God is this man interesting - I recently found out that he used to be a session keyboardist for Westside Connection (amongst many other West Coast gangster types!). This makes me love him more! (I think I love Westside Connection more than I ever loved N.W.A - big statement....I don't care!)
He currently runs a night in L.A. called Funkmosphere where is the aim is to literally bring the funk back. He's pretty serious about it too.

Anyway, judging by the music, the man has a wealth of knowledge and strikes me as the type of person you would definitely want to have a knees up with!!

Check out this video from The Fader - should give a good taster for those who don't know.

Don't forget XLR8R's top MP3's from last month includes a track from the "Toeachizown' album....you can find the post on that HERE. I would STRONGLY advise that you all head over to Spotify / We7 and listen to this album in the hopes that you realise that you HAVE TO HAVE IT!

Check out his MySpace aswell - lotsa little gems on that there too.

BIG LOVE x

P.S. Whoever can tell me the significance of the circumflex accent on the 'a' gets a free Mars bar. Answers on a postcard!

Fabriclive49: Buraka Som Sistema

Goodness gracious me I have a feeling that this might be a bit of a cracker. I really like kuduro but I'm quite pleased to hear that this compilation won't be a pure hommage -that would just be boring and safe. Then, those wouldn't be words I would associate with BSS - I'd say they'll be away in a hack with this one.

Here's the skinny on it:

Waaaaaah!! Zomby is one of their selections!! YUSSSSS!

Let's listen to some Zomby now:

Release date of Fabriclive49: 7th December - mark it in your Forever Friends diaries!

OH MY JAPE!

Yes friends, it's another remix. But I'm really serious this time!! This piece of music by Patrick Kelleher re-worked by Jape is just....a new word needs to be made up for what it is.
I just heard it about 30 minutes ago and had to get right on this. It fills me with a mix of glee, euphoria and restlessness! And OH the last minute of it is just sensational.
I feel like this should be the soundtrack to something but I haven't quite figured it out what yet.
The song's called Wonder.
Go on now and get over to Nialler9 and hear it.
I've gotta go, I'm melting......

Janey Mac!

These are a few of my favourite things

Happy MOvember y'all! I know quite a few chaps (and chapettes!) getting involved so get thyself to your local MOvember website and contribute.

Lovely London Lads bringing the Dandy look back

I don't care what anyone says, Swizz Beats is a marvellous man who produces some of the best stuff I have laid ears on. Jadakiss' "Who's Real" is no exception. Unfortunately the Universal giant does not want to share the love on this one and has disabled the embed codes on youtube. I cannot quantify how bent this is!!
Please do click the link on the screenshot below:

Beautiful Ksubi glasses from the new collection - and just in time for winter.

Chloe Blouse.

Jalouse are launching their new blog-site tomorrow. I have high expectations that it will exceed my wildest dreams. Can't be too hard considering some of the tripe we get from the likes of Elle and Vogue (YES, I SAID IT!)

Chill the fuck out with this rather wonderful set from Theo Parrish. Grab it here!

Check out XLR8R's top 25 MP3's for October which includes the incomparable Dam Funk.....he is unreal people, words cannot express it! (Also check out the Chromeo, previously posted here, and the Lazer Sword number which in my opinion is great!)

Kid Sister's debut album is FINALLY out next week! I have been waiting for this for the best part of a year and a half!

Goin' Schitzo!

I couldn't find a picture so the CRAZY FUN BUS seemed appropriate.

A while back I put up the video for Mega by The Count and Sinden - it is quite possible that I black out any time that it is played as it has a hold on me, it's that bass that's just so damn eargasmic! WELL, I recently laid ears on a remix that may well have the same effect by Schitzofonics.
In keeping with the Irish tip (coz it' WHOPPER), these DJs/Producers seem to making their mark. They made No.1 on Hype Machine with their remix of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and have also recently come out with a tasty little number called "Schitzobass" featuring the distinctive vocals of Lady Chann.

But for me it has to be the MEGA remix:

Mega (Schizofonics Remix) by schizofonics

(Please treat yourself and listen to this on a good set of speakers/headphones - don't worry about tinnitus, they're on the verge of finding a cure - trust me, you'll pat yourself on the back for it)

Jenna Toro - Electric City

If there is one thing I can say about Dublin, it's that it never fails to produce some damn good talent. Having moved to London not long ago, I have come to appreciate this even more and I truly believe that we are amongst the best. (Yes, that was a very cheesy introduction but it's from the heart fuckers!)
Partly responsible for awakening this realisation within me is Jenna Toro. My room mate showed me her MySpace not so long ago and all I could think was where the fuck has this girl been hiding?!
She has an amazing quality to her voice that lends itself just perfectly to the sound that it accompanies. Also, having had a little bit of a rummage (a stalk in layman's terms!), turns out she likes quite a wide variety of music which to me just means she's an interesting person who is sound enough to open her ears to a bit of everything. (I would like to take this opportunity to express my sheer delight that Silverchair was on her list of music she likes - no joke, I have never met anyone else who even knows them - if that is an old list I take it backsies!)

Right, I am on one of those rants that only I appreciate so I will leave you with the relevant deets (yes DEETS - got a slag from Alex Metric on Twitter for shortening my words.....what's your PROB AL?)

Below is a snippet of 'Electric City' - out on Nov. 20th on iTunes
Jenna Toro - Electric City (Play)

(Yes, it's only a snippet because as I saw DJ Zinc put it, the idea is that you come to realise that you need the full track in your life so you go and buy it - sordee bout ya!)

Also, I strongly suggest you got check out Jenna's MySpace because there is a fairly delicious remix of 'Electric City' on there by Hubie Davison. GLORIOUS!

Follow her on Twitter while you're at it!

"WHY I OUGHTA......."

It seems Virgin Media are trying to ruin my life by depriving me of the internet for the foreseeable future for nothing more than their sheer incompetency as a company.
It is for this reason that I have to bring my precious Macbook Pro through the dirty streets of Dalston in order to get multiple posts done from work.

So to some up......FUCK VIRGIN.

M.A.N.D.Y - The Mix Collection

It's out now on Renaissance.
It's good.
And I currently being elbowed in the back by an obnoxious Arsenal fan and so won't stay long!

Dazed Digital got nice little exclusive mix from the Get Physical boyos in the run-up to the release so go check that out HERE.

BIG LOVE!

Later Skater: Decked Out

You may have noticed on previous posts that I have quite a penchant for skate decks and as I settle into a lovely big new house I have become increasingly pre-occupied with decoration. Pre-occupied to the point that I am starting to see a younger version of my mother emerging (a frightening prospect if I am honest).
Anyway, as I see more and more beautiful artwork being applied to decks a light bulb moment occurs to me: I should adorn my large bare walls with a collection of skate decks. That way I kill two birds with one stone - I get to decorate whilst retaining my youth.

Anywho - here are a couple of recent series which I shall add to the collection along with the mirror deck and the Doodah supermodel decks.

Jay Electronica - Suckas

"Ms. Badu's baby daddy" is not how he should be known because OH MY DAZE he is good. Alot of people seem to have an opinion of Jay Electronica (often negative) but here we should take the high road because quite frankly, his music is too good!

This particular track is an unreleased gem from a few years back, supposedly produced by J Dilla. Say no more.
